With great sadness I report the death of Mr. Stanley De Veaux, age 76.  What a fine man, I will miss our correspondence so very much.  He was always up beat, encouraging and with a great sense of humor.  Many of the Happy Sabbath messages I have sent you came from him.  They always had beautiful pictures of God's creation and sometimes words of wisdom.

We met at Ambassador College in Pasadena when we both worked in the Mail Processing Department.  After he left Pasadena we lost touch but then several years ago he wrote me asking to be put on my email list to receive prayer requests, etc.

I sent out a prayer request prior to his prostate surgery on November 11, 2019 and he then sent me an update which I shared on November 12.  I received this message from his son, Jonathan:  

"He had complications and went into cardiac arrest yesterday morning (Friday, November 15).   We were shocked because he seemed in good spirits, etc.

Obituary – Stanley De Veaux

Jan. 16, 1943 – Nov. 15, 2019

Stanley Eugene De Veaux was born in Savannah, Georgia, on January 16, 1943, to the late Louise

Washington de Veaux and Peter De Veaux. He died on November 15, 2019. He was raised in

Beaufort, South Carolina, in a community known as Broomfield. Stanley attended the small

Barnwell Elementary School until 1953 when he was able to attend the larger, newly-built St. Helena

School. During his early school years, Stanley was a very responsible, respectful student. He

enjoyed spending time with his father and carefully listened to the wisdom of older adults. While

attending St. Helena High School, Stanley became involved in Student Government, the

Man/Science Club and the Yearbook Committee. He was also voted “Most Likely to Succeed” and

graduated as Valedictorian of his senior class.

Stanley entered Tuskegee Institute in 1961 and continued to excel academically. He participated in

numerous college activities earning the title of “Who’s Who Among College Students.” During his

Tuskegee days, Stanley was selected to escort Cassius Clay (Muhammad Ali) around campus. On

another occasion, he introduced Malcolm X during a college event. Stanley was named a

distinguished campus leader and travelled to Kenya through the Operation Crossroads Africa

Program in 1964. Stanley earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Agricultural Economics

from Tuskegee.

Stanley began listening to radio broadcasts sponsored by the Worldwide Church of God during high

school and college. He later became an active member of the church. Stanley started his early career working in Human Resources for several major corporations in the southern United States (including Tennessee Valley Authority, Monsanto and the Michelin Corporation). He was also recommended by his church to attend Ambassador College in preparation to become a full-time minister.

Stanley always held fond memories of working as assistant Pastor with Durrell Brown during 1967 to 1972. They served several church areas from Mobile to Atlanta to Greenville and parts of Florida. Stanley and Durrell remained dear friends for over 50 years.

In August 1968, Stanley married his first wife, Grace Ann Shelton. They were blessed with one son,

Jonathan Shelton De Veaux. Stanley and Grace served together in the ministry for 20 years in

several areas of the United States (including Greenville, South Carolina; Birmingham, Alabama;

Houston, Texas and Long Beach, California). They were well respected for their strong faith in God

and for being a very loving, exemplary married couple.

Following Grace’s death in 1989, Stanley was transferred to serve as Pastor of the Nassau, New

York, Church. He married his second wife, Jean Marie (Borden) De Veaux in June 1991. During the

last 28 years, Stanley has also pastored congregations in Suffolk County and Queens, New York. He

made time to serve as an active volunteer for Leadership Huntington (community improvement), the

Wyandanch public school system, Martin Luther King Health Center and he served as a VA

Chaplain. At the time of his death, Stanley was the Pastor of Agape Church of the Savior in

Westbury, Long Island, New York.
