JAMIE CRANFORD DEZUR

Jamie Cranford was raised in OR and came to AC Big Sandy in 1970 where she worked in the Spanish Department. In 1972-74, she was at Pasadena where she continued to work for Charles Dorothy. Two sisters and a brother eventually attended AC also. She had a gentle touch which made those of us in her dorm happy to have her as our dorm monitor. Her sister Donna remembers her as a wonderful sister who had a calming effect, was easy to communicate with, and had a firm faith. She was also a grateful person.  My husband Ernest (Zimmermann) remembers that one night when he and the janitorial crew cleaned her office, they found a cheery note thanking them for their work. She married Terry Dezur who was briefly a student at Pasadena, and they settled in Santa Inez CA where they ran a plant nursery. Jamie also loved painting. She later moved to the San Fernando Valley where she worked until her passing from cancer in 2004.

Steven Martens (1970)

If I remember correctly, Jamie, then about 22 years old, had such light blonde hair that was difficult to distinguish it from being white. We were together as students in the "Dig" in Jerusalem in '73. Local Arabs -- we were later told -- thought it good luck to be able to touch someone with blonde hair.  The first I saw of this was when Jamie disembarked from the bus on the top of the Mount of Olives. There, an older Arab man in traditional garb was offering camel rides. He singled Jamie out for a hand shake. She seemed perplexed but shook his hand anyway.
