Boyd and I attended the memorial service for Cora and learned that she had died of complications from occular cancer. We also learned that she had successfully fought it off once before, but when it returned in force she asked her minister not to tell her church family, told him "it's time", and simply went about her life. And to hear the tributes from those family and friends AND HER EMPLOYERS, Cora led a full and contributory life, first of all to her family but also to the entire community around her.
I attended AC when Cora was there but did not have opportunity to get to know her well. But in the few instances where our paths crossed she impressed me with her compassion and capable organizing skills. From the tributes of family members and the nuns with whom she worked I gather that those same things that impressed me 40 plus years ago were the very same attributes that others appreciated so very much throughout her life here on earth. Those and her loving heart. RIP Cora. We miss your presence with us now but look forward to being reunited in the future.
Cora Dunlap Grassmann, age 66, died May 3, 2015, of occular cancer. She is survived by her husband, Ron, her two children, Nicole Wesley and Brian Grassmann, and three grandchildren, Sofia and Tanner Wesley and Jacob Grassmann.
Sam, Cora's brother and I were best of friends in Eugene Oregon. Cora used to "tell" on us as a little girl, but as I got to know her the one thing I will say is that she had a very good heart. At college, I did not get to see her or Sam much, but the Dunlap family has always been "my family" as well. Cora always was trying to help other people. She was a good person and I was always fond of her.
