Hal Finch was a classmate during the two years I spent in Pasadena. Later on he became a mainstay in the photography department, working on photos for the various magazines the church published. I think he was responsible for all of the official photos of those ministers and wives who came in on sabbaticals, that were then put together in what we called the Church Family Photo Album. It was nice to be able to turn to the Family Album whenever someone was in need of intercessory prayer. His was a valuable skill and we appreciated his eye for color, arrangement, details that would be frozen in time for all to see. (Was your hair just the way you wanted it? Could you turn just a fraction to the left/right so there was no shadow on you or your mate or family member? That tie needs adjusting. Pull the pearls out from under the bow on the collar.) Little things one could spot right away on a proof that needed fixing, but since he only had permission to shoot two or three shots of each group, Hal's artistic eye for such details made a big difference. He is missed.
