Obituary of Robert Ralph King

Robert Ralph King Passed away at the age of 83 on January 25, 202 at the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento. He fell at home on 1/7/2020 but was not able to survive his head injury and the subsequent strokes while hospitalized.

Robert was born in Sacramento, California and grew up in Berkeley. He graduated from El Cerrito High School and continued his education at UC Berkeley where he was accepted in the Naval ROTC program. He received a BS degree in Electrical Engineering in 1959.

He became a Naval Officer aboard the heavy cruiser Los Angeles and subsequently worked for Litton Industries in Palo Alto, California where he helped develop the first microwave.

Robert graduated again, this time from Ambassador College in Pasadena, CA in 1969 where he received a BA degree. He worked many years as a self-employed Electrical Engineer at Echo Summit, California where his dad lived. He was also a skilled stone mason. When he retired, he was elected Water Master for the water system on Echo Summit.

Robert enjoyed tinkering with things and restoring machinery. He built a wood boat when he was 16 years old and drove it on Echo Lake for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Shirley King and Sisters Dorothy De Mare and Beverly King. He is survived by his sister Marylee Larson, Nephews Dave Jacobs and Peter De Mare and 3 Grandnephews Nathan and Jared Jacobs, and baby Noah De Mare who Bob never got to meet.

Robert’s graveside service will be held February 7, 2020 at 11am at Roseville Cemetery in Roseville, CA
