John was an intelligent guy with a great sense of humor - and a strong Southern accent. During our first class in the old white house that stood where Grove Terrace was built, Howard Clark was calling the roll when he hesitated at John's last name. John spoke up in a booming southern drawl and said, "OGWYN - O-G-W-YYYYYY-N!!!" And Howard said, "You from the SOUTH ain't 'cha boy!" The class exploded with laughter. It was the first time I thought that I might be able to fit in at AC, at least for one semester.

One more thought: Getting to know Howard Clark was one of the best outcomes of my AC experience. I still miss him.

John was a good friend even though he and I were not close in AC.  He loved history  and the Bible as do I, and that was a connection we both shared.  We laughed at who got the best price on any particular book.  His sermons were/are very informative
