Barbara Ann Prather, 84, formerly of Bonners Ferry, Idaho and three-year resident of Charleston, South Carolina (near her daughter), died on Friday, Jan. 24, 2025, after a brief illness.
Barbara was born in Livingston, Montana on April 12, 1940, to Kester and Blanche Counts. She moved to Pasadena, California at the age of 18 and attended Ambassador College from 1957-1959 until she married Dennis Prather, and they moved to Vancouver, B.C., for him to work with the Canadian Office of the Worldwide Church of God.
She spent her years raising her family, raising collie pups and passionately pursuing alternative health and wellness.
She found her new home in Idaho in 2009, as it was reminiscent of the mountains and clean air that she loved so much in Montana, but not quite as cold!
Barbara loved God and her Church family very much and was faithful to her beliefs until the end. It brought her a great amount of peace to listen to church services over the phone each week, for years after she was unable to attend in person. And she so appreciated the cards, letters, visits, calls and personal gifts she received from her friends in the Church family when she was a shut-in.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband of 40+ years, Dennis Prather. Even though they had divorced, they looked after each other in Bonners Ferry until his death in 2016.
Barbara is survived by her two daughters, Lynn (Cliff) Willey, formerly Lynn Rudolph, of Charleston, and Vivienne Prather of Castlegar B.C. She leaves behind six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Jean (Leroy, deceased) Cole of Red Boiling Springs, Tennessee and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister Sharon (Merle) Boyes of Merritt, B.C.
