Charla was my sister and she lived a full and vibrant life filled with many travels and the love of her neices and nephews.  In her last year of life she got remarried in June 2005 to her sweetheart of 18 years. She and Tom Steinback had divorced in their early years of marriage. Unfortunately, her second husband passed away a couple of years later after her death with complications from a bone marrow transplant.  Charla was recovering from a brain anerysym in 2004 and got well enough to return to work in 2005.  Her back was hurting her and they thought her work chair was not urgonically correct, however, in the end, after she sought the care of a doctor, she had a growth on her kidney.  She had surgery in May 2005, the growth was laying on the liver. She died in September 2005.  It was a sad time, however, we had much closure with her death as we had time to be with her those last few months.  The sad thing was that my dad died 12 days after her death and he was 75 so that closure was much harder the family. Charla had many dear friends over the years and I remember fondly her keeping in touch with many of them.  She had a heart of gold, a smile on her face and loved life each day and made the most of the days she had.  She loved her time in college in Pasadena and Bricket Wood and I know how much she enjoyed traveling whenever she could and money would allow.

One of my most favorite persons in the world. We were very long time friends and did many fun things together. She even got to come to my cabin in Bear Valley Springs at the top of the mountain. Very irrepressible and spontaneous and was happy doing her thing. Hard to think she is now just a bunch of happy memories--but we, hopefullly, will all come to that at some time!

Here is a picture taken from the 72-73 Envoy when Charla would have been a Senior in Pasadena in 1973.  I was able to get picture from Envoy while at Pasadena Reunion and since I did not have access to this envoy it was great to see it again.   She enjoyed so much her years in Pasadena and Bricket Wood and she formed many friendships over the years.  She is surely missed!

One of the reasons I decided to join this website was to try to reconnect with Charla.  She was the first person I met when I arrived at my AC dorm.  She was standing in front of the full length mirror trying on clothes... a plaid flared skirt is what she settled on.  She and I were freshmen together.  She was a beauty. And she had a very nice singing voice too.I have to say I very much admired her... a very confident person. Though I only knew her that one short Freshman year at AC she made such a great impression that I have never forgotten her. I was very sorry to hear of her passing.

Emma Jane:  I received your message on my profile page and answered you there. But just in case you don't see it, I will leave a message here too.  I am so very sorry for your loss. Charla has only been gone 10 months, and since we lost a family member to cancer only 15 months ago, I know your grief is still raw as ours is. God bless you and comfort you. I will pray for you.

It has been 10 years since Charla died, in September 2005.  This month is the 10 month anniversary of her death which is hard to believe it has been 10 years already!  She is certainly missed each and every day.  She left a wonderful legacy of her zest for life and she made the most of life while on the physical earth.  She loved traveling, history and being spontenous in just about anything she did!  A wonderful sister, aunt, daughter and just a great all around friend for life for those that knew her!

10 years.. my mistake then. I misread and thought it was 10 months. Still.. I am sure sometimes the loss still feels very new. I hope the memories you have of her are a great comfort. 10 years.. She must have only been around 55 years old. Far to young to die.
