BRENTON FIEDLER OBITUARY

Brenton "Brent" R. Fiedler

Brenton "Brent" R. Fiedler, 70, of Bristol, Tenn., passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, June 26, 2022, at his residence. He was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, and was the son of the late Byron and Betty Marshall Fiedler. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Amber Fiedler.

His father was with Canadian Pacific Airways, so Brent as a youth bounced from school to school, from Montreal west to BC. He graduated from Western Canada High School in Calgary, Alberta in 1969 and then went on to Ambassador College from 1969 to 1972. It was at Ambassador where he met Susan Ashe on her 3rd day on campus while practicing in the college chorale. During college he was able to work 3 summers in Israel on archaeological digs. He and Susan were married in Abingdon, Va. in 1974, driving across Canada the next day to live in Victoria, BC to work as an electrician and caretaker of an estate. In 1976 they moved back to Tennessee with their infant daughter Becky, where he continued working as an electrician while also serving in lay ministry.

Needing a change in professional vocation, Brent went back to school and graduated from ETSU in 1990 with teaching certification in both French and physics. He continued his studies to receive his M.Ed. from Tusculum in 1998. Brent taught French, physics, and humanities for over 20 years at John Battle High School. He also coached the academic team and served as the school technology coordinator. It was always a pleasure for him over the years to run into former students and their classmates, and he was disappointed that he had to retire early due to some health challenges.

Through it all, Brent always served in a faith-filled capacity. He began attending with Worldwide Church of God in 1965. He directed the choir in Victoria, BC. He was ordained a deacon in 1981 and an elder in 1983, and served there faithfully for many years. While still with WCG he began serving in a messianic outreach ministry, sharing the joy of the appointed times of our Lord (YHWH's calendar was one of his favorite subjects!). He was led to found Beth Shalom, a messianic congregation, in 2003. He and his wife led that congregation until their health no longer allowed.

Those left to cherish memories of Brent include his loving wife of 48 years, Susan Ashe Fiedler; daughter, Becky Fiedler Copley (Thomas); grandchildren, Brenton, Zeke, Miriam, and Keturah Copley; siblings, Barry Fiedler (Adrienne) and Brenda Fiedler Jansen, and several nieces and nephews.

The family will gather to share memories on Thursday, June 30, 2022, at Oakley-Cook Funeral Home from 5 p.m. until a celebration of Brent's life at 7 p.m. with Pastor Matthew Miller and Evangelist Gary Huff officiating. Hawaiian shirts and bright colors are welcome! A committal service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 1, 2022, at Glenwood Cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery by 9:50 a.m. on Friday.
