Lawrence Holbrooks Obituary

Lawrence Clayton Holbrooks, 64, a long-time Seminole resident, died peacefully Sunday morning at the home of a family member in Lubbock. His passing followed a cancer diagnosis in June. Lawrence, the son of the late Ulan and Dorothy Holbrooks, was a 1968 graduate of Seminole High School. He received his B.A. degree in Theology from Ambassador College in Pasadena, California and, later, his Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Texas at Arlington. Following his service as a ministerial assistant and church pastor in Appleton, Wisconsin, Charleston, West Virginia, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Santa Ana, California, Lawrence was employed, for the last 14 years, as a medical social worker for Fresenius Medical Care, a kidney dialysis unit in Lubbock. He also served at company installations in Hobbs and Carlsbad, New Mexico. An accomplished classical pianist, he worked for several years as a professional musician with a country rock band around Southern California. He served first as a patient volunteer and, later, as a board member of the South Plains AIDS Resource Center (SPARC) in Lubbock. Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Cecil M. Holbrooks. He is survived by eight siblings, Linda Roper of Fairview, Texas, Ginny White of Culpepper, Virginia, Dana Leimbach of New London, Ohio, Dena Holbrooks of Arvada, Colorado, Sam Holbrooks of Seminole, Deborah Bell of Katy, Texas, Janna Knox of Lubbock, and Zach Holbrooks, of Seminole. He is also survived by 14 nieces and nephews, and loved by 34 cousins. Following cremation, Lawrence's life will be celebrated by family and friends at a memorial service to be scheduled at a later date.

Larry was such a fun guy - we came to AC same year and graduated in 1972 - Lost track of each other for many years then met up again at a conference in DC - where we picked up our friendship as if all those years had never passed - so many great memories of our years as students and friends.

does anyone have a contact address for anyone in his family?  If so, pls share as I'd like to send a card to his family.  thanks, Charlotte Whitting

I have wonderful memories of Larry.  We met the first day of school in the Fall of 68 at AC in Pasadena and remained close friends throughout school.  He was such a warm, funny and loving person and I am sure will be sorely missed by his family and friends.  Larry's laugh would lighten up your worst day.  Trisha Svehla

Larry was so very kind to everyone.  I met him my freshman year, 1972, when he was a senior.  A group of us freshmen wolunteered to work on the FOT organizing committee and Larry made that experience memorable and became a friend.  I cannot think of him without smiling.  He will be missed.

Larry's gone already? So very sorry to hear. He was our student assistant at our local congregation in Cincinnati, Ohio with Jim Reyer. Very fond memories of Larry. He invited me to his "Guilded Bash" party once in Pasadena. He always had a smile on his face and a good word for all.
