Kathy and I worked together in Mail Processing for several years. She was a very sharp lady and I really liked her. She was also a wonderful seamstress.
Kathy had at least two sons at the time we lost touch with her and husband Vern. She was so talented at sewing and made most of the clothes for her family. Her boys being a step up in age from our first two, our sons benefited from some of the hand-me-downs. She taught herself to upholster furniture and made a sizable side income for the family by finding cast-off furniture and recovering it to sell. She also built their dining room set, complete with upholstered velvet in the Spanish style that was popular in the early 70's. She and Vern were at our home for dinner one night, and Vern delighted in showing their height difference. Mind you, Kathy was a little shorted than me, I think (5'4" - me), and Vern was over six feet tall...when they were standing. But sitting side by side in identical chairs, Kathy was taller by several inches than Vern. She was a great example to me of someone with an industrious spirit.
