From Portune Family
Just wanted to let you know that Dad [AJ Portune] passed away very peacefully this morning. As you know, he has been in an assisted living facility for several years. When they went in this morning to bring his breakfast, he wasn't breathing. They called an ambulance and took him to hospital where they inserted a breathing tube and also IV. He had a DNR on file but I guess they didn't pay attention. Anyway, he never regained consciousness. Fortunately, the doctor allowed Mike's sister and brother-in-law (Susie & Larry) to come to hospital so they could be with him when he drew his last breath.
It was what he wanted more than anything.....to escape the bonds of this earth and be reunited with his beloved Derith. Mike & I just spoke to him on Sunday and he was (as always) sharp as a tack. Brilliant mind, brilliant man. Gone but never forgotten.

I remember Al Portune as one of the most sincere and inspiring ministers in the church. In March l974 in Richmond, VA he gave an honest shocking disillusioning report to about 35 ministers of what was taking place in Pasadena. I was grateful to learn what was happening and it led to my exit from the WCOG within 2 weeks. It was painful but turned out to be a blessing. His preaching and example have been an inspiration to me over the years. May God grant his family peace of mind. - Milo Wilcox

I last heard from Al Portune when he spoke at the Feast of Tabernacles in 1979 at Jekyll Island with the Church of God, International.
