Jeannie Stokes (Gladden) - Year Entered 1975

Jeannie Stokes (Gladden)

JeanMarie Gladden

February 28, 1957 - November 14, 2024

JeanMarie (Stokes) Gladden, 67 of York, passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at WellSpan York Hospital. She was the wife of the late Michael David Gladden who passed away in 2014 after 24 loving years of marriage.

Born on February 28th, 1957, in Winchester, Virginia, she was the daughter of Janet Minnie (Rough) Hush of Front Royal, VA and the late Bernard Lee Stokes.

Jeannie was a cherished and loving member of the Church of God, whose unwavering kindness and compassion touched the lives of all who knew her. As a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, she was always ready to offer a helping hand to those in need. Her heart was as big as her love for animals, and she took great joy in adopting and caring for them. Known lovingly by her grandchildren as "Grams," she was a constant source of love, warmth, and kindness. A close loved one claimed Jeannie taught them how to be kind. Jeannie encouraged her daughters and grandchildren to pursue their artistic talents and abilities including teaching dance, ice skating, musicals, and playing instruments. She never missed a recital or show. She made events feel special.

Jeannie’s generosity knew no bounds. She was a faithful supporter of causes dear to her heart, including St. Jude's Children's Hospital, various animal rescues, and charities that supported our fallen veterans. Her time and donations had a significant impact on many lives, and her selflessness will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her spirit of love, kindness, and service to others will forever live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and the countless individuals whose lives she touched.

In addition to her mother, Janet Hush, Mrs. Gladden is survived by her three daughters: Jessica Mapes Junkins and her husband Adam of St. Augustine, FL; Elizabeth French and her late husband Jonathan of St. Louis, MO; and Emily Goodling and her husband Daniel of York, PA; seven granddaughters: Sierra Johns, Katie French, Adesson Junkins, Gwyneth French, Claire French, Evelyn French and Juliet French. She is also survived by one brother, Andrew Stokes, her niece Savannah Hughes and many loving extended family and friends.

She was proceeded in death by her father Bernard L. Stokes, stepfather Marvin Hush and husband Michael D. Gladden.

A service to celebrate Jeannie’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on December 8th, 2024, at the Austin H. Eberly Funeral Home, Inc. with Mr. Larry Alverio officiating. A time to share memories and visit with the family will be from 1:00 pm until the time of service at the funeral home. The burial will be the following day, Monday, December 9th in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens, 250 Chestnut Hill Rd, York 17402.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Gladden’s memory to the Humane Society of Harrisburg Area, Inc. 7790 Grayson Rd, Harrisburg PA 17111.

Her passing breaks my heart. We've been friends since college and even shared a dorm. She truly was a special person and I look forward to seeing her again in God's kingdom!

I met Jeanne when she was a freshman in my dorm my senior year.  I was her RA.  The last time I visited with her was at the Las Vegas AC reunion.  It saddens me to know she died.  I also met her granddaughter KAtie French and her great granddaughters at the UCG Feast in Italy.  They inherited her muscial talent.  She will be missed.

Jeannie was a dear friend of 49 years when we met as roommates summer of 1975 in the dorms of the Big Sandy campus.  We remained friends after Big Sandy closed in 1977 and we transferred to Pasadena.  Jeannie introduced me to my husband in November 1982 on a blind date in Pasadena.  We had many great memories through the years even after Jeannie moved to PA and remarried.  Her care for others, her infectious smile and her love and beliefs carried on in her daily life.  I was happy we got to spend time at the Pasadena reunion and share so many laughs and good memories.  She went through so much when Michael died and all that transpired yet Jeannie remained steadfast!  I shall miss her but will love her for the dear friend she was and the lives she touched!  I pray for her daughters and her mom as they grieve her great loss! You are missed Jeannie.
