So sorry to hear about John. He was such an easy going person and always had a smile. Hadn't heard of his passing. Tom and I send condolences to his family.

Richard Houghton (Scott) (1969)

John and I were pretty close during my year at AC (1969-'70), even though he was a junior that year, and I was a freshman, mostly because we hailed from around the same area (I was from Kansas City, Mo. and he was from nearby St. Joseph, Mo., at the time I believe, although he came from Atchison, Kansas originally).

Or perhaps I heard he moved to St. Joe later, possibly.

The best time I can recall was when the two of us planted ourselves in the third floor Grove Terrace lounge chairs to watch the Kansas City Chiefs super bowl playoff against the Minnesota Vikings on January 11, 1970, when the Chiefs won Super Bowl IV, to a whole lot of whooping, hollering and rejoicing from John and me!

John was a big bear of a guy, but a lot friendlier than Yogi, and a little smarter than the average AC student, although he would have been embarassed by the compliment, I'm sure.

So sorry to hear John's no longer around, to grace us with his big Atchison, Kansas born and bred grin and infectuous sense of humor.

Sad condolences to his wife Barbara (nee Hotz), their two daughters, and any other family, friends and acquaintences of John. He is missed for sure!
