Lynn Torrance taught at the AC Pasadena campus when I first came in 1957. I had him for classes. I don't know when he moved to the Big Sandy campus. Here is his obituary from the Journal in Big Sandy: "BIG SANDY, Texas -- Lynn E. Torrance, an elder in the Living Churcch of God and former registrar of Ambassador College, died unexpectedly at his home here Sept. 25 [2004]. Dr. Torrance, 86, had been a longtime member of the Radio/Worldwide Church of God. Besides serving as registrar at AC, he taught classes, including international relations and speech. He is survived by his wife, Lou Torrance, two sons, Jim Torrance of Dallas, Texas, and David Torrance of Atlanta, Ga., and several grandchildren." I remember that he was in WWII in the Pacific and was captured by the Japanese and experienced horrible conditions while imprisoned. He was a very interesting person as a teacher and seemed to care about the students and related to them easily.

When I was a student at Big Sandy, I heard from another student or two that Dr. Torrance had participated in the Bataan Death March.  I am wondering if anyone knows anything about that.

Yes, I had Doctor T for several classes 1966-70 including International Relations. He refered to his  four year as POW as when he was "Guest of the Emporer", captured after only three weeks deployment, and their effors to kill him and his fellow POWs "without using bullets". That included unspeakable things, including their only food being half rotten garbage. He was a survivor of the Bataan Death March, weighed 180 pounds when he was drafted at age 18 and weighed 80 pounds when he was liberated.

I knew him well, like all students at the time but didn't happen to be on a group trip to Dallas when, as several who were there reported, while they were walking on a sidewalk a bad muffler on a big truck backfired loudly  like a cannon shot, and Dr. T dropped flat to the ground, spread eagle, like he was back in the war. He obviously suffered from Post Cambat Trauma but gradually recovered.

As my memery serves me Dr. Torrance grew up a little west of Bozeman Mt, where I think he earned a BA in English before going to AC Pasadena.
